Memories of a fine actor and a good friend. I was all of 10 years old when THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK was released and due to the profound effect that STAR WARS had on me the prior three years, I was looking forward to it very much. We are now only three months away from the release of REVENGE OF THE SITH. When the cover was released, some of us lost all hope. It was a simple screenshot of some game play, with a couple of storm troopers and an AT-ST walker.

I think everyone has had their fill of fan boys and online critics, I know I have. Star Wars and George Lucas have probably been the most picked on by this group of bottom dwellers. Lucas has gotten grief for being an innovator and not sticking to PAST standards of film making and story telling. Why?

1999 saw the birth of the franchise wars as The Phantom Menace and The Matrix hit theaters, but that was just a prelude to what would happen in 2001 with the release of the first of Peter Jackson's highly anticipated Lord of the Rings movies. Based on the hugely popular books by J.R.R. Tolkien, this trilogy of films would impact the world of fandom (as well as Hollywood) in a way that hadn't been done since George Lucas unveiled the first Star Wars film in 1977.
