Modeling Techniques...

Ever wonder how shops like ILM make all those models you see in films like Star Wars? I can help you learn. I have written several articles to describe the usual techniques and materials involved in the way I work. These articles will cover issues like "How to scratchbuild", "Vacuum-forming", "Molding and Casting" and so on. I am also available to answer any of your modeling questions through e-mail.

Scratchbuilding is a continuous circle of learning by experimentation; trial and error. After a while you will begin to see how things work. By looking at modelshop pictures from ILM or other studios you will soon realize what techniques they use and hopefully how you can accomplish the same results at home.

The main problem for hobby-scratchers is that their budgets are somehow less elaborate than those of the established studios. We must therefore find alternative ways to achieve more in a more economical way. Click on a link below to read the articles. I hope they help!
